Blues Harmonica, Real & True — with Catfish Jack
Pull up a chair.
If you’ve ever wanted to play blues harmonica the way it’s meant to be played — not just notes, but feel — you’re in the right place.
I’m Catfish Jack, a Northern California blues harp player, teacher, and lifelong student of the music. I’ve spent years on stage, in workshops, and sitting in with musicians who taught me what this music is really about.
I feel grateful and honored to pass it on.
Whether you're just getting your first sound out of the harp or you’ve been playing a while and feel stuck, I’ll help you move forward — one note at a time.
Why Learn with Catfish Jack
We focus on real blues feel and taking the time to master your TONE! You’ll learn how to play with other musicians which is one of the main goals of my teaching. I believe if more people play music together the world will be a better place.
No messin’ around— just good music and steady progress
A Review from the Anderson Valley Advertiser March 11, 2020 By: Debra Eloise Catfish Jack - 30 years ago in West Oakland, there was a little fish market where every few days, two old bluesmen, "Big Bob Deance" and "Carl Good Rocking Robinson", would come in and say "Hey, Jack! How's the catfish today?" And that's how he got his name! And such a perfect name for an outstanding blues harpist (harmonica). He's right up there with the other famous guys like Charlie Musselwhite, Little Walter, and Sonny Boy Williamson. Bonus! Instead of just playing a song, we got a "fishing lesson" on the history of harp in blues. He could play every style that morphed out of the eras and locations of blues. Whether he's playing with others or flying solo, he's a big catch for this Show!
